Dyspraxia (DCD) Assessments
At Activate OT, we provide specialist Dyspraxia (Developmental Coordination Disorder - DCD) assessments, following the ICD-11 formulation to ensure a thorough and evidence-based approach. Our occupational therapists complete the first three essential steps of the assessment process.
3 Steps of the Assessment Process
A detailed developmental history - Gathering information from parents, caregivers, and educators to understand early motor milestones and daily functional challenges.
Motor skill assessment - Using standardised tools such as the Movement Assessment Battery for Children (motor ABC-3) and the Beery VMI, we evaluate coordination, fine and gross motor skills, and visual-motor integration.
Functional impact analysis - Assessing how motor difficulties affect everyday activities, including self-care, school tasks, and play, to develop a comprehensive profile of strengths and challenges.
Assessment Findings
Following this process, the assessment findings are shared with the young person’s paediatrician, who is responsible for completing the final stage of diagnosis by ruling out other potential medical conditions. Our team works collaboratively with families, schools, and healthcare professionals to ensure the child receives the right support and strategies to enhance confidence, independence, and participation in daily life.
